Beginners Courses

SKC welcome beginners new to kayaking and we will be running several training courses over the year which will run from April to August each year, on Tuesday evenings for 2 hours over 6 weeks with the level 2 skills assessment on the 6th week. The cost of this course will be €100, payable on the first night.
This training is open to adults and juniors (12 -18 years old) who can swim.

The fee includes gear rental (paddlers will need their own wetsuits or suitable clothing and footwear), as well as SKC membership until next March, instruction and the Level 2 skills assessment with the Irish Canoe Union certification, on passing the course.

This is a basic skills award and will provide the participants with the fundamental skills and techniques required for kayaking and water safety. Once the course has been completed then paddlers will be welcome on all club peer paddles and trips that suit their paddling capabilities. We will keep your progression going with training on moving water and kayaking in the surf as well as touring paddling.

For paddlers who are experienced but have not yet achieved the Level 2 skills award. We will arrange for you to have an assessment done on joining the club.
